Warzone Resurrection Unit Spotlight: High Chieftain Morten Oakenfist

Unit Spotlight: High Chieftain Morten Oakenfist

Morten Oakenfist

In the Lore:

The First of the Warhounds, Morten Oakenfist is now the undisputed leader of the Wolfbanes. A softly spoken bear of a man, that roars in battle. To see him in mêlée is to gaze upon a perfectly honed fighting machine in its element. Each swing of his mighty warhammer is counterbalanced by his fur-laden bulk. Everyone that stands in its way is pounded to splinters of what they once were. His commands from the front, leading by example and all in his command follow without question. For he is the Great Wolf, the mightiest of the Warhounds, strongest of his kind, leader of the Wolfbanes, second only to the Serenity. He is High Chieftain Morten Oakenfist.

On the Tabletop:

In the lore, Morten Oakenfist is the supreme leader of the Wolfbane Clans, an offshoot of the Imperial Megacorpoation and woe betide any that meet him on the battlefield. On the tabletop, this message rings all too true with the combination of skills, abilities and traits that he has to offer.

Firstly, it is worth pointing out that Morten Oakenfist is a WOLFBANE Warlord. Therefore, the army construction should be focused on Wolfbanes. Sure, Ministry of War units are available to him, but Trenchers and Stormtrenchers are treated as Support – instead of Troops as they would be treated if led by a Ministry of War Warlord. Let’s also not forget that because he is a Wolfbane, he has the Passive skill ‘Lick the Wounds’, which means he actually gets Heal (2) if he is within a terrain piece. That adds a great deal of survivability, which is especially useful for a Close Combat specialist like Oakenfist.

Speaking of survivability, Oakenfist has a number of Special Skills, but the most appropriate one is his Passive Skill ‘Blessed’, which allows him to totally ignore the first Wound Effect he receives during each game turn. He also allows 1 Squad of Warhounds to be taken as Troops. At the time of writing this article, Warhounds are not available from Prodos Games, but they will be made available in the coming months. Once they are, this character will truly shine!

Oakenfist truly is a monster of combat. He has a few skills that aid this, so firstly, the Active Skill ‘Roar of the Bear’, which actually pulls in all enemy models within 6″ of him into Base to Base contact. Thus forcing them into combat! He also has a 360 degree fighting arc, so can swing his hammer and hit ALL of these models!

His mighty Hammer, the Tribune of Fukido, Oakenfist is allowed Rate of Attack 2 as standard, with the option of increasing this as normal. The exciting things are that it is a massive Anti-Vehicle Value (AVV) 10 and causes Critical Damage 3! This means that Oakenfist is almost guaranteed to destroy at least a single section of a vehicle in each game turn he is in combat! Brutal! Not only that, but against normal figures, he is a ridiculous Strength 15 and Blast. Against most infantry, this is going to reduce their armour value by 7! Undead Legionnaires, Capitol Light Infantry and Bauhaus Hussars suddenly just start to just melt away…
