Test of Honour Podcast - BoLS GameWire

With the release of Warlord Games’ new Samurai game, Test of Honour, the boys at The Brit, The Yank and The Hobby Podcast felt they should get in on the action.

Carl: We needed someone with the knowledge to do this subject justice and with a little bit of arm-twisting we had our man. The right honourable gentleman from Nottingham, Mr. Andy Hobday, very kindly joined us for what was a couple of hours of pure learning on our part. The information provided from him really gave us an interesting perspective on the period.

Speaking as a history teacher, I can say that feudal Japan is an area I have barely scratch the surface of and the information Andy provided painted a fantastic picture. I am now more eager than ever to dive into it. From Samurai to Ronin and the struggles between factions, feudal Japan has been represented in many movies, which Andy described to us also. Throughout the episode Andy did a wonderful job of explaining to us the basic facts about the period, which as a beginner myself, I fully appreciated. For those who are keen to get into the period but are perhaps clueless or unsure about the period then this episode is a great starting place. I would also suggest listening to it if this period is unfamiliar to you and you are trying to put your force together. I will certainly be re-listening to it when my copy of the game arrives.

As per usual, we followed our format of doing a history segment followed by a segment on the modeling and gaming of the period. This was a great opportunity to learn more about the game, Test of Honour. Andy jumped at the opportunity and gave us a good insight to how it plays and what it holds for the gamer. We also had a discussion about the various figure and terrain ranges available. If you, like many I am sure, have seen the adverts for Test of Honour and are sitting on the fence about whether to purchase it or not, then I would highly recommend listening to the episode which can be found on iTunes or at the links below.
