SLA Industries – The Power of the Ebb

“The Ebon Race has evolved on a single basic premise: The World of Progress, the universe is based on one fundamental formula that is extremely unstable. This basic formula struggles to retain stability and, in the process, it splits itself and will continually do so until it reaches a sufficient safe state. Upon this hypothesis the universe is structured and built. This creative formula is called the Ebb, it shapes and controls all that exists in this universe. Ebb is also something that can be controlled and manipulated by a race that understands its concept and knows how to utilise formulae: The Ebon Race”

The Ebon Race

The Ebon is a species unlike any other. With study and research, Ebons can read the intricate and incomprehensible patterns of glyphs in order to cast their formulated powers. With such knowledge, Ebons can read minds, heal wounds, move objects without touch, create light and lift through the depth of space. In spite of the Ebon’s great power potential, they are a highly strung and emotional race. Even the Ebon’s appearance reflects their individual persona. Hot tempered Ebons can grow fiery red hair and eyes of flame – like yellow, while the most tense Ebons can be stark white eyed with shocking electric blue hair. Ebons are recognised by their abnormal eyes, having no pupils or irises. In this respect Ebons can be spotted a mile off, since their very emotions come across in their somewhat pale and draughty appearance.

Ebons also have the capability to be offensive with their abilities, enjoying the power to blast their victims – though most Ebons view those talents as defective and self-destructive. These aggressive abilities are best left to the masters they were formulated for; Brain Wasters

The Brain Wasters are a subsidiary race of Ebons, looked upon by most as a type of Ebon Warrior due to their aggressive, antisocial and frequently psychotic behaviour. This “breed” of Ebon has been described as having a mismatched gene, hereditary in the natural evolution of the Ebon race, but it has not been isolated as yet. The Brain Wasters’ most outstanding features are their charred eyelids (To date, there has  never been an explanation for this unusual formation). While the majority of Ebons’ overall image is bright and colourful, the Brain Wasters’ is dark and forbidding. Since the beginning of SLA Industries, animosity has grown between the two classes. It is a conflict of supremacy, status and viewpoint, kindling the fire of the Brain Waster’s temper and arrogance.

A Triumverate of Ebb Users

Aprils’ Release for the Cannibal Sector 1 Skirmish game are a Trio of Ebb users; Shine, The Ebon. Ministry, The Brainwaster and the enigmatic Gunslinger.

First up – we look at Shine, the Ebon Swordswoman

Shine is renowned as 1 of the finest Ebon Swordswomen to walk the streets of CS1. Fighting with twin blade or blade and Ebblock – her lightning speed and dazzling dexterity allow her to close with her Enemy and dispatch them with grace and precision.

This beautifully sculpted 32mm comes in high quality resin. Shine comes with a choice of twin blades or blade and Ebblock.

Next up, we look at the Firepower crazy Ministry!

Ministry! The first in our range of Brainwasters, renowned for his deep love of battle, love of blast associated Ebb powers and love of laying down a hail of firepower! His signature weapon is his Buzzsaw, the sheer amount of bullets that it can lay down bring a sparkle to his eye.

As capable of wielding the Ebb, as he is at throwing down the firepower – his unpredictability make him a challenging foe.

This beautifully sculpted 32mm comes in high quality resin, and has a spare Buzzsaw – in case you need that wee bit more firepower.

The last in our Ebb using Trio is the mysterious Gunslinger..

The Ebb user known as the “Gunslinger” is something of an enigma – never seen without the helmet on his Deathsuit, it is as yet unknown whether he is an Ebon or a Brainwaster. What is certain, is that he is lightning quick with his brace of custom Ebblocks and deadly accurate – wherever he appears, he leaves a trail of corpses in his wake.

Ebb use in CS1

Ebb users are classed as Operatives in the CS1 Skirmish game – you can field them as part of certain Factions or can use them as a stand alone Operative Force and mix n match them with other Operatives like Joe Fade, McNultie or Delia. Purists can also field an Ebb only Patrol which would be awesome, if a challenge to use on the Battlefield.

There are a number of schools of Ebb powers, which each character can gain access to – Named characters can utilise Powers from specific schools that reflect their personality and gameplay style. For example – Ministry is all about the bang.. he loves the boom.. anything he can make explode or detonate with the power of the Ebb brings a smile to his face, but to be truthful he loves combining his Ebb powers with a suitable application of firepower  – the more the merrier!Shine on the other hand, has almost preternatural senses and reflexes and can appear to blur in and out of combat. The Gunslinger.. remains true to his mysterious origins – teleporting to the optimum location for the perfect shot before relocating and renewing his attacks.

Rules wise, most of the schools of Ebb from the RPG have translated across nicely to the tabletop. We will be releasing the Ebb Glyph cards later in the year, covering the entire range of Ebb Powers along with lots of special Ebon Equipment.

Dark Lament

Much of the equipment you can see on the Miniatures may look baroque and unusual – this is because the majority of Ebb kit is from Dark Lament – the Flintlocks for example, are more than a simple pistol – they actually channel Ebb powers and can focus and intensify the effects. Similarly the Ebb Blades which Shine uses are more than mere instruments of war. The Death suits that every miniature is clad in, are symbiotes which are bonded to the Ebon and help protect them as well as magnify their innate abilities – as the Ebon grows in power, the suit does as well – and can act not only as personal armour, but also a battery for drawing Ebb from.
