It was supposed to be a simple assistant. Not even a paramedic, more like his sidekick. A medical caddy, so to speak – to carry around meds and what have you. The goal was to take some burden off the staff, give them more room. But it was just a smokescreen, a way to siphon off money from state agencies, where a mere mention of rescuing lives pops open streams of cash.

I must say, I took a liking to the walking tin cans. There was something in their looks that put a smile on your face. Those were the V1 models. A Vello Mekanik runaway. Every service, every department had to have one. After they were fitted with surgical soft and terminals, they became even more useful. It didn’t take long for them to show their true colors, though. See, a humanlike droid can get in wherever humans can, may use human instruments, equipment…

Within a year, the V2 model was revealed. They modified the soft, put on armor plates, tactical ports and a couple other gimmicks. They don’t bring a smile to my face anymore, oh no. After all, who smiles for a cold-hearted killer?

Sgt. Stevenson, combat medic – conversation recorded at a veteran clinic – diagnosis: PTSD.

That’s it for today.
