My Warband My Story – Martin’s Dwarfs

In times past, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a Basilean court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Mantican underground.

Today, still wanted by the the Basilean High Command they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them… maybe you can hire… ‘The Dirty Dwarfen’…

Ho Vanguardians!

Martin here! Now that Rob has got that Fishy/Goblin nonsense out the way it’s time to bring you my new Warband – the Dwarfs. Now I did do a quick preview last time around, but now we have all got a few more games under our belt I wanted to follow up with what and how I’ve been using these amazing models!

First off I painted all the dwarfs I got in the Kickstarter! It was truly a pleasure. Having a combination on all the resin options and the extensive range of dwarfs available in the Mantic portfolio was able to build everything I wanted. I’m now just waiting on the Dwarf Reinforcement Pack to round out my force.

What the dwarf roster does offer is options and versatility. If you want to go heavy armour and melee, fine. If you want to go Cannons and guns, fine too. You can also go scout heavy and keep the enemy guessing where on earth you are going to deploy. The Dwarf special ability is really strong to help move your warband up the table or towards capturing objectives (they need all the help they can get due to having short legs). The support options are vast and really allow you to change what you want your force to achieve, with just one model swap.

The line up I have been using mainly, is as follows:

Ranger Captain (plus Long Bow 3 points) – 47 points

2 x Dwarf Rangers – 38 points

Steel Juggernaut – 48 points

Shieldbreaker – 14 points

Stone Priest (plus Lucky Charm 1 point) – 28 points

3 x Dwarf Levy – 24 points

There is a little bit of everything across these 9 models. Ranged Combat, spells and Melee.

I tend to use fairly balanced line ups when learning a new system. That way I can see what everything does over a few games. I can then start to look at what’s competitive, what models really synergise together and what equipment works well! I need to get something fun but effective ready for Cry Havoc the Winter Vanguard in January! Rob has been great at thinking up unusual lists so will be good to try and FINALLY match his Trident Realm next week for our final battle of 2018!

I hope you like my Dwarf Warband and I cant wait to see what people come up with when they hit the shelves at retail in January!

Cheers,

Martin
