Come to Cosplay!

Lock & Load GameFest 2018 is just a few months away, and if you’re a cosplayer, you’ve undoubtedly been thinking about, working on, and fussing over your costume for this year’s contest!

Saturday, June 23, from 8 to 9 P.M., we’ll welcome every cosplayer from Ashlynn to Zerkova onto the stage to compete for prizes and to earn the praise of our judges and our audience. In the past, we’ve seen some incredible outfits: lights, smoke, and even the occasional newborn-swaddled-as-a-shredder. We’ve had participants who were part of duos, who turned their cosplay hobby into a profession, and who put their costumes together on the drive to Lock & Load from across the country.

Well, now’s the time to let us know you’re coming! Attendees who plan to participate in this year’s cosplay competition are encouraged to write to me at [email protected] so I can send you a quick questionnaire to have information about you ready for the evening’s event.

And if you (cos)play your cards right, you could win! We’ll have prizes for first, second, and third place, as voted on by our esteemed judges. As emcee, I don’t get a vote…but I do get to introduce you, bring you up for the crowd to appreciate your hard work, and award you prizes for your effort. If I’m quick, I can work in a bit WARMACHINE humor (“Every time Orsus Zoktavir tells a joke, he butchers it”) before the judges can stop me.

Last year, someone asked me about crossing Iron Kingdoms characters with other pop culture characters (specifically, I was asked about a “Time Warpwolf” a la Rocky Horror Picture Show). We always appreciate creativity, and we only ask that you keep the primary focus on the characters from our setting!

And don’t forget: we’ll also have a Cosplay Basics Hangout this year (three hours on Friday and three hours on Saturday), in which Air Bubbles Cosplay will show you how to make your own bracer! Check out her Best in Show-winning Una the Falconer on her Facebook page here
