Concept to Crate – Ice Queen Lanyssa

In this week’s Insider, I’ll be discussing the MiniCrate exclusive alternate version of Lanyssa Ryssyl, Nyss Sorceress: the Ice Queen.

With a fairly straightforward concept in hand, Andrea Uderzo got to work and soon sent me three different takes on her outfit.

I thoroughly enjoyed the elegance of version 1, and the group agreed. We also discussed whether or not to include her sword. (The ultimate answer was, “of course.”) Of the options presented for the poses, three was the obvious choice. We had some concerns about the ice hanging off of her hands, so Matt Wilson asked if we could do an ice trail instead.

Plugging directly into that idea, I remembered the Goreshade resculpt. We added the soul energy swirling around the base, trailing off a skeleton being ripped apart. My original sketch below established a base line for the swirling mass of energy, so we used that as our guide.

Now that we had the final direction for the pose, all that was left was to determine how the sword would be incorporated into her outfit. To that end, Andrea worked up three alternatives.

Verson 1 was the closest to her initial incarnation, and with a little revision, we ended up with the final concept below.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at the concept development for the MiniCrate exclusive Lanyssa Ryssyl. So, don’t be frozen by indecision—head over to the website (www.mini-crate.com) and subscribe today. There are only a few days left to get this model before you have to let it go…
