CaptainCon 2019

Privateer Press brings you this guest insider from CaptainCon 2019 with some history, insight, and news about this upcoming WARMACHINE/HORDES event!

February 8–10, 2019, marks CaptainCon’s sixth year! This huge party with a gaming problem is brought to you by the New England Privateers—Paul “Snakeman” Shoemaker, Andrew “Hacksaw” Hartland, Craig “Lonelymonk” Caton, and Cory “The Hat” Chambers, four veteran gamers (and former Press Gangers) with more than 50 years of event-planning experience between them at both the local and national level.

We understand that the passion, expertise, and dependability of event leads are what make our events second to none. Experience, people, and dedication to the continuous improvement of your convention experience ensure that CaptainCon is one of the best conventions on the East Coast year after year.

CaptainCon is about giving you choices—you’re the captain, and our crew will make sure you enjoy whatever course you set for the weekend. Your badge grants you access to all of our events! We also provide plenty of tables and terrain to ensure that casual games for any system are always an option. So, what’s on the agenda this year for competitive Privateer Press fans?

  • 75-point “Standard Issue” Steamroller
  • 75-point Champions event
  • The 15th Annual WARMACHINE & HORDES New England Team Tournament (see site for details)
  • 75-point Masters event (WARMACHINE Weekend invitational qualifier) populated from event winners throughout the convention
  • Monsterpocalypse tournaments (1- and 2-monster events)

We also give you plenty of ways to earn prizes at CaptainCon; you can even win stuff if you don’t participate in a single tournament via our Captain’s Log system! Your Captain’s Log will serve as a memento of your achievements throughout the convention. These achievements include things like playing a casual game, trying a demo, painting a model at the paint station, or even just visiting a vendor booth, and every achievement is worth points in your Captain’s Log. You can then use those points to purchase prizes such as posters, models, copies of games, and exclusive items from our Treasure Chest. Some of the prizes are so secret that even we don’t know all of them yet! How cool is that? Have fun all weekend, and walk away with free stuff.

In between games, stop by our Hobby Center, grab a seat, and spend some time chatting with friends while you paint a few models. There will often be several very experienced painters hanging out there if you want to learn some new tips or tricks. Also, don’t forget to enter some of your creations in our painting competition while you’re there. We also have a great vendor hall where you can shop for new games or models, pick up gaming accessories, or buy a new item for your wardrobe.
